Now that spring is officially here, it’s about time to give your garden the refresh it’s been needing! Are you ready to add some unique color and texture to your landscape? We have compiled a list of 5 must-have spring annuals to add to your space this season to create a show-stopping masterpiece!
Pericallis ‘Magic Salmon’
First up, we have the Pericallis. These beautiful two-toned blooms are perfect for any style garden. Their daisy-like shape makes them a great choice, especially for English, natural, and cottage gardens. Pericallis are medium growers getting up to about 14 inches tall and are tolerant to lower temperatures which is great for our unpredictable Idaho weather.
Calceolaria
If you are looking to add a unique yet vibrant flower to your garden this season, look no further than the Calceolaria. This exotic, bubble-like floral is a perfect choice for making a statement in the landscape. The Calceolaria comes in many different colors and is also lower temperature tolerant. These blooms also make perfect patio plants in pots and containers as they are smaller in size.
Primula ‘Oakleaf Yellow Picotee’
Another great unique-looking choice would be the oakleaf yellow picotee Primula! Unlike other Primula, this variety has clusters of flowers atop a longer stem. The contrast between the vibrant yellow flower and deep red tips makes this flower stand out in any landscape. They also look fantastic in container arrangements!
Ranunculus
If you are looking for an elegant plant to add to your garden, the Ranunculus is an absolute MUST. These flowers are not only beautiful in color, but also fragrant! With their paper-like layers and variety of color, the Ranunculus makes for a gorgeous choice in any landscape but look best in cottage, Victorian, English, and cut flower gardens as they do beautifully in arrangements.
Bougainvillea Vine
This fast-growing vine produces beautiful pink blooms that are sure to make a statement in any landscape! As they are native to Central and South America, they are planted as annuals here in Idaho. Something unique about the Bougainvillea is the blooms aren’t actually flowers, they are a modified leaf called a bract that protects the true flower which is small and white in the middle!
