March: Tips to keep your yard looking fabulous!
- Continue to clean up any debris in the yard such as leaves and dead branches. Also prune any dead or diseased branches. These are places where insects and disease over-winter so you want to be sure they are all cleaned up and discarded before the weather warms up.
- Prune any summer blooming plants as well as roses before the new growth begins. Do not prune your spring blooming shrubs until they finish flowering.
- Remove any tree wrap that you wrapped the trunks with last fall.
- Start preparing beds and new planting areas, as weather permits.
- Apply dormant oil spray to prevent insect problems, once temperatures begin to remain above freezing, but before plants break dormancy.
- Add compost to your vegetable gardening areas
- Start vegetable seedlings inside
- Stop in at the nursery and see all the new arrivals. We have new trees and shrubs arriving daily!
